Wyverns Take on Gateway Classic in St. Louis

The St. Francis Varsity Field Hockey team travelled to St. Louis, MO to take part in the Gateway Classic on Labor Day weekend.  The Gateway Classic is the nation’s largest field hockey tournament, this season a total of 61 teams from 6 states.  Ten teams from Kentucky participated as well.  

The Wyverns played in a tough pool featuring Parkway West from Ballwin, MO, Barat Academy from Chesterfield, MO and Lake Forest Academy from Lake Forest, IL.  The Wyvern managed only one win but the overall experience was great for the girls.

In their first game, the road weary Wyverns, fell behind early and fell 1-5 against Parkway West.  Alex Shelley scored the lone goal for St. Francis.  

On Saturday night they were able to defeat Barat Academy 3-0 behind strong defense.  Grace Donovan, Natalie Lancaster and Hanna Cobb all scored for the Wyverns.  

Sunday afternoon the Wyverns took on Lake Forest.  The dropped this one, losing 0-5.
